The Musée de l'Orangerie presents a new exhibition devoted to Matisse, the leader of the Fauvist movement who also marked the 20th century with his contributions to Cubism and abstract art.
The works selected for this exhibition all date from the 1930s, a period during which Matisse traveled to Tahiti and incorporated new elements into his art. Thanks to the magazine “Cahiers d'art”, the artist's creations have survived to the present day.
This exhibition presents beautiful but little known works from museums across the Atlantic. It allows visitors to understand the debates and reflections of the time, Matisse's radical artistic choices, as well as his rivalry with Picasso and comparisons with other artists such as Kandinsky, Le Corbusier, Mondrian or Duchamp.
The exhibition highlights the richness and complexity of Henri Matisse's sculptures, drawings and paintings through a selection of powerful works and issues of the magazine "Cahiers d'art" that have enhanced the painter's artistic career.
Do not miss the exhibition "Matisse. Cahiers d'art, le tournant des années 30". And also enjoy a moment of relaxation in the Jardin des Tuileries!
